Mayflower 400 Heritage Trail – Walking Tours of the Plymouth Barbican
We’re the people behind One Small Candle here in Plymouth. We’re a Heritage Lottery funded not for profit community interest group that bring the Pilgrim – Mayflower story alive with authentic costumed re-enactors and storytellers. We’re a quirky, fun group. Here’s what we offer in the way of guided walking tours in Plymouth….
- Interesting guided walking tours of the Mayflower Steps area on the Barbican.
- Lots of history told by a pleasant costumed Pilgrim.
- We show you where the Pilgrim’s stayed and lived before the epic voyage to the New World in 1620
- We pop in and out of the historic decades around 1620 how could we avoid mentioning where Sir Francis Drake stayed? Where Napoleon was imprisoned. Where Pocahontas landed… and why! Where 600,000 people were deported to Australia and New Zealand? Did you know Charles Darwin and HMS Beagle have been here? How about “Lawrence of Arabia” or Glenn Miller just before his sudden death… How could we miss this? HMS Amethyst? Where she met a sorry end…. It’s all near the Mayflower Steps!
Our walking tours are scripted by David Saunders and (we’re told, are) interesting without any over played boring bits!
We can take you to the places we always recommend for lunch, high tea, coffee, fish and chips, gin, pubs or whatever takes your fancy!
